7th Battalion, Cavalry Georgia State Guards
Also known as: (Linton) Stephens' Battalion, Local Defense Troops
Organized: August 1863 for local defense (6 months)
Area of operation: Within the limits of the State.

from website http://thegeorgiacavalier.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html is a description of another man in the same unit:

      Joseph Henry Hines [Great(x3)-Grandfather]

      Military Assignments:
Private, Company B ( Washington Cavalry), 7th Battalion Georgia Cavalry (State Guards)

The Washington Cavalry was raised in August 1863 in response to appeals dated June 22nd and July 17th, 1863, to the People of Georgia by Governor Joseph E. Brown. Joseph Henry Hines, although he had young children at home and was the only parent, his wife, Susan Elizabeth Harrison Hines having died in 1862, responded to the call and reported for the company’s muster. Whitehall, his plantation, was left in the care of the overseer and the slaves, enlisting on August 4th, 1863, in Captain Thomas E. Brown’s company of cavalry forming in Sandersville. The company marched to Atlanta in September and was assigned to the just forming 7th Battalion Georgia Cavalry (State Guards), receiving the designation of Company B.

The most notable aspect to the 7th Battalion Georgia Cavalry (State Guards) is that it was commanded by Linton Stephens, the half-brother of Confederate Vice-President Alexander Hamilton Stephens. As a six-month formation that did not see any combat action, the 7th Battalion Georgia Cavalry (State Guards), however, did see service as part of the Savannah garrison during the fall of 1863 and winter of 1864.

The 1921 deed excerpt describing James M. Barge properties near Oconee GA seem to describe land that was bequeathed equally to James S., John A., William M., and Zuleika Barge. I was not able to determine if any part of this property originated from Abraham Barge although the land seems to be in the same area as the Barge cemetery thought to contain Abraham and Hannah Barge (although as far as I can tell, this is just conjecture).

The Barge Cemetery was a small family Cemetery located on the property of Abraham Barge who drew land in the Ga Land Lottery of 1832. Abraham's property was in McBride's District.

There are only two markers left; however, there are depressions for 6-7 graves. The only indication that a cemetery is on the property is an old gate.
